Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge to effectively complete the task outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit. This includes knowledge of:

○ relevant policy, legislation, codes of practice and national standards likely to impact on the application of trauma informed approaches, including training contracts and responsibilities of employer, training provider and funding body where they exist

○ prevalence of trauma in the general population and with service users

○ definitions of trauma and complex trauma and its impacts

○ affects of trauma on adult learners

○ methods of identifying trauma

○ character strengths including qualities like kindness, humour, creativity, and bravery

○ trauma informed methodologies and strategies

○ the way individuals cope and manage the impact of trauma

○ the potential for and causes of re-traumatisation, in particular, in accessing or receiving training services

○ learning theories in relation to trauma informed approaches

○ equal employment opportunity, equity and diversity principles

Assessment Conditions

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Conditions must be typical of those experienced in the training and assessment environment and include access to:

○ documentation of any existing training plan or contract if applicable to the trauma affected learner(s).

Assessors must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational education and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
