Calculate the volume of 10% dextrose to correct hypoglycemia

5 mls × 12 kg = 60 mls

Wash hands and put on gloves

Draw up correct volume of fluid to make 10% dextrose

12 mls 50% dextrose 48 mls of water for injection/normal saline (1:4)

2 mls 50% and 8 mls N/S in each 10 ml syringe

Administer intravenously as a rapid bolus
