Ÿ A total of third-year students in Nursing University A, who gave consent to participate in the study.

Ÿ The study was conducted from February to March 2010.

Ÿ A total of 74 third-year students in four nursing colleges in the Kinki region, Japan.

Ÿ A total of 77 second-year and third-year students who were participating in a community nursing practicum in a three-year course of a nursing college.

Ÿ A total of 150 second-year and third-year students who were participating in a community-based practicum from 2009 to 2010 in a three-year course of a nursing college.

Ÿ A total of 86 students who were enrolled in Nursing University A as of 2019, and who were scheduled to participate in a nursing integration practicum

Stress factor

Stress factors were extracted from free descriptions.

Ÿ Stress factors before the practicum included: anxiety for the practicum, interpersonal relationship during the practicum, practicing healthy habits, concerns about practicum records, and anxiety for not having sufficient time to study.

Five factors were extracted, for which the structure of stress factors was confirmed.

Ÿ Practicing nursing as a member of a nursing team

Ÿ Adjusting autonomous nursing practice with teachers and instructors

Ÿ A nursing course in which students are assigned to multiple patients

Ÿ Building a supportive relationship with patients and their family

Sense of coherence

Measurement was performed based on subordinate concepts for 13 SOC items.

Ÿ Total SOC scores were 51.3 ± 4.6.

Ÿ There were negative relationships between the SOC item, “sense of meaningfulness” and the stressors, “practicing nursing as a member of a nursing team” and “adjusting autonomous nursing practice with teachers and instructors.”
