Aim

To shed light on the characteristics of coping with interpersonal stress by nursing students during a practicum in psychiatric nursing from perspectives of personality disposition and stress reaction.

Physical and psychological stress factor items developed by the authors were used to examine the psychological stress of nursing students in clinical practicums. The study compared the items between psychiatric nursing practicums and adult nursing ones, and identified the differences.

1) To clarify stressors for students before a community nursing practicum. 2) To shed light on behaviors of coping with stressors. 3) To clarify the state of mental health of students before a community nursing practicum. 4) To clarify the relationship between coping behaviors and the state of mental health.

To elucidate the relationship between the level of mental health (GHQ-12) and coping in nursing students before and after a community nursing practicum, and examine methods that can facilitate the effective implementation of practicums without issues.

The study examined stress factors in students during an nursing integration practicum. Then, it elucidated the relationship between stress factors, the SOC, and stress-coping behaviors. It also examined methods of improving nursing integration practicums in a scientific and rational manner based on validation data.
