2. Safety Needs | Security of body; safe schooling and employment, with stability & security, and adequate reward from work. Consistency of caregiving in family; developing freely chosen sexual intimacy & pregnancy; affordable, high quality health care; affordable & comfortable dwelling place. |
3. Love and Belonging Needs | Love of partners in sexual fulfilment; good friendships and peer support; warm and fulfilling family life; engagement with supportive value and/or religious mentors and peers. |
4. Educational and Leisure Needs | Affordable access to high quality basic and higher education; availability of aesthetic and leisure pursuits, in music, art and movement; access to sports as participant & spectator; access to horticulture and to the world of nature. |
5. Esteem Needs | Good self-esteem from interaction with parents, & peers; self-concept supported by local culture and national values; achievement of confidence and respect in the wider, non-discriminating society; development of talents, fostered and esteemed by cultural values; being respected as a unique and free citizen. |
6. Self-Actualization | Successful achievement of a life guided by chosen moral values; achieving creative excellence and spontaneity; acceptance of fulfilment of self-identity in social relationships; understanding of the meaning of one’s personal life; pleasure in the achievements of family, children and others. |
7. Self-Transcendence | Seeking to serve a cause “beyond the self”, with an experience of communication beyond the boundaries of the self, through “peak experiences” |
8. Collective-Transcendence | Self-transcendence takes place within a community of peers who share the same beliefs and goals, sometimes as part of a shared religious identity; or a shared value commitment to offer service, or achieve social change. |
