HPDC

LPDC

Advantages

1) High productivity resulting in lower cost

2) High volume, high efficiency

3) Parts may have complex geometries, exhibiting multifunctional designs

4) Cold chamber process suits larger components

5) Hot chamber process suits comparatively small and thin-walled components

1) Prevent molten metal from contacting the air (avoid porosity)

2) Lower cost than HPDC

(8 - 10 times cheaper)

3) Less mould wear than HPDC

Disadvantages

1) Substantial amount of porosity: detriment in mechanical properties (i.e.: tensile strength and elongation)

2) Less durability and pressure tightness

1) Labour intensive, need skilled operators

Applications

1) AZ81 for gearbox casing

2) AS21 for crankcase

3) AZ91 for various applications

1) AZ91 for road car wheels
