To assess decoding skills, six items are introduced, including one exemplary item.

Context-free Oral Word Naming

The children were asked to read five familiar words that they have previously been exposed to during the program.

In addition, the children were presented with another five unfamiliar words (context free).

Text Reading and

Comprehension

The children were asked to read a short passage (51 words). They were assessed on: Accuracy (Number of correct read words) and Fluency-Rate (Time of reading in seconds). In addition, they were asked to retell the story and to answer a set of questions dealing with the read story (their performance was assessed by Makhoul gauges (2006) ).
