Land use | Description |
Forest (Fo) | Less disturbed land covered with tall and dense trees. This system consists of native tree species and vegetation. |
Savannah woodland (SWL) | Savannah vegetation mixed with woodland and grassland ecosystem. It is characterised by trees widely spaced. Sufficient sunlight reaches the ground gave rise to a micro-climate that supports grasses. |
Grassland (GL) | Rolling terrain with grasses. The local climate favours the growth of these grasses and, in some cases, a few trees. |
Fallow (Fa) | Abandoned land left to recover its fertility. |
Cropland (CL) | The land was cropped to maize continuously. Continuous clearing, removal of above-ground biomass (crop residue) and levelling of farm fields resulted in a land-use change (information from local farmers). The use of manure and fertiliser was low on some farms. |
