Definition of Disability

Limitation in people’s activity due to health conditions for at least the past 6 months

“Those people who associated disabilities which partially or totally hinder the equal opportunity of access to the community life and therefore need protection measure for their social integration and inclusion” (art. 2, paragraphs 1 and 2. Law no. 448/2006, modified, revised and republished in 2008)

Degree of Disability

1) Strongly limited = severe disability

2) Limited = moderate disability

3) Non-disabled

1) 1st degree of disability (severe) corresponds to incapacity for any work requiring constant attendance

2) 2nd degree of disability (accentuated) refers to an incapacity for any work, but not requiring constant attendance

3) 3rd degree of disability (moderate) implies the loss of at least half of the working capacity, the disabled persons still being able to perform a professional activity
