Aims | § Create centers of excellence for Math & Science § Focus on those mathematical science learners with potential in dedicated schools rather than a dilution across the whole system § Enroll talented learners from neighboring schools that would not otherwise get access elsewhere § Allow those with more ability to study extensively § Promote innovative teaching and learning in math & science |
Criterion for selection | § Located in Presidential nodal area i.e., those targeted for urban renewal and rural development § Under resourced well-performing schools § Display basic levels of functionality § Offer both math & science at HG level § Have satisfactory class sizes of a minimum of 20 learners § Have competent educators in both math & science § Have had at least 35 Grade 12 mathematics passes by African candidates, either at higher grade (50%) or standard grade (40%) |
Performance Targets | § Increase the number of those registered for math and science at HG level by 10% annually § Contribute to 20% of national targets in math & science |
