Phase

Description

Project planning

Project planning, usually carried out before the commencement of a project, consists of set of the plans and methods of project execution. It is concerned with identifying the activities to be performed, and estimating the type and level of resources needed for this. In doing these, there must be a strict adherence to the organization’s rules, policies and procedure.

Project scheduling

This phase starts before the commencement of the project. It arranges project activities according to the time that they should be performed, with a view to allocating resources as well as allotting the start and finish dates to the various activities. This phase helps in identifying critical tasks and shortage of resources that may affect effective project delivery.

Project controlling

Unlike the planning and scheduling phases, the controlling phase only becomes operational during project execution. This phase is concerned with project monitoring in order to identify deviation(s) from scheduled plan, and to addressing the bottleneck(s) so as to achieve effective project delivery.
