Library3.0 principles

Attributes of Library3.0

Applied context-awareness

Principles of Connectivism

The library is intelligent:

Self-renewing, flexible, functional, integrated, efficient, resilient, autonomous and sensitive (adaptive)

Self-renewing, flexible, functional, integrated, efficient, resilient, autonomous and sensitive (adaptive) via selective intelligence (wisdom of the expert), ontology, smart (intuitive) searching in natural language, artificial intelligence

Space on/off:

Controlling the space according to user access. Turn off the light & other available technology once the user entering the space.

Lobby:

Direct users to their desired space using location based technology

Learning may reside in non-human appliances.

The library is organized:

Turn the unorganized web of information into a systematic and usable body of knowledge by exhaustively describing and linking every piece of data to enable ease of access

Turning the unorganized web of information into a systematic and usable body of knowledge by exhaustively describing and linking every piece of data to enable ease of access via semantic Web/Search

Ability to see connections between fields, ideas, and concepts is a core skill.

Nurturing and maintaining connections is needed to facilitate continual learning

The library is a federated network of information pathways: Unifies disparate information channels, formats and environments to ensure availability, accessibility, search ability and usability of credible information

Supports expressiveness and interoperability to create synergies between hitherto disparate information resources and systems via network of data (meaning), all-visible, all-accessible Web, and Cloud computing

Learning is a process of connecting specialized nodes or information sources. Currency of knowledge is important.

The library is apomediated:

Stand by the users and guide them to high quality information and services

Stand by the users and guide them to high quality information and services without overbearing on the users via social media, peers, & librarians.

Reference & Safety services:

Riding on location based technology, if the user spends over certain duration at specific location looking for specific subjects, recommendations will be sent to him/her accordingly. If the user doesn’t move over a certain time, alert will be sent to library personnel.

The library is “my library”:

Personalization similar to what various service providers such as search engines and the media were offering their clients on various Internet platforms

Personalization of library services via the design, management and delivery of content based on known, observed and predictive information.

The opportunity to interact with other library users and to form or join groups to enrich their learning experience

Access service:

The system detects the user identity by reading the RFID card, & then pushes the recommendations according to his/her borrowing history.

Learning and knowledge rests in diversity of opinions.

Capacity to know more is more critical than what is
