Formed by the cleavage of PTH in the parathyroid gland, liver, and kidney

Increased parathyroid gland secretion and levels in hypercalcemia

Clearance mostly by glomerular filtration

Levels elevated in renal failure

Half-life is 20 to 40 minutes

All fragments are metabolically inactive
